La leggenda vuole che lo stesso San Paolo abbia imposto le mani a Oronzo per ordinarlo vescovo, così come Oronzo fece con il nipote Fortunato che gli succedette dopo la morte. Intanto Giusto e Oronzo girarono in lungo e il largo la il Salento e la Puglia evangelizzando e convertendo al Cristianesimo città e villaggi.
